What to expect now that you're on the Ben Lomond waitlist

Obtaining a Sponsor

The club requires new members to be sponsored by a current club member.  This can be a family, friend, neighbor, or co-worker.  If you attend any of the events open to the public, there are bound to be members willing to sponsor you.  Check the SHOOTING tab on our website for info on events that are open to the public.

You can also attend any of our 6 chapters' monthly meetings.  Check the calendar on our website for dates and locations of the chapter meetings.

Chapter Approval

Affiliation with one of the six chapters is a requirement of Membership.  All new members must be interviewed and approved by the chapter of their choice.  Check the calendar and select a chapter and attend one of their meetings, during role call, they will ask for visitors, that is the time you introduce yourself as seeking membership.  The chapter director will decide whether to initiate the process right then or later in the meeting.

The process is simple:  They will ask you to introduce yourself to the members present and give a little of your background, interests in the shooting sports and your reasons for joining Ben Lomond.  The membership will then vote to approve your membership.

It Isn't Over Yet

During the COVID years membership requests expanded the waitlist to over 800 people or about an 8 year wait.  Since then the Board of Directors voted to restore the pre-COVID process of chapters approving new members as described above.  Since implementing the sponsor-chapter process, this info is added to your member profile and we select new members according to those with sponsors and chapter approval AND in the order they entered the waitlist, oldest to newest.  Invitations are then sent to the selected prospective members where they will attend a new member safety briefing and receive full member benefits.
